The Wrong Missy

Watch the trailer if you dare.

The Wrong Missy is the latest shockingly bad film starring David Spade and (thankfully briefly) Rob Schneider. It is exclusively on Netflix and follows the relationship of Tim Morris (David Spade) and Missy (Lauren Lapkus) from a disastrous first date where he ends up breaking his ankle in trying to escape her to them ultimately falling in love in an ending that makes absolutely no sense but you are willing to go with it because that means that the film is finally over. After the first date with the first Missy where he never wants to see her again, he ends up briefly bumping into another Melissa (Missy) at an airport but they find that they are soulmates. When a work retreat comes along for Tim he invites Missy along but wait for it – he invites the mad one and not his soulmate! Of course it makes no sense that he doesn’t realize that he is texting the wrong one but sense is not this movies strong suit.

The wrong Missy turns up for the corporate retreat and non-hilarious high jinks ensue such as a hand job on a plane, drinking hand sanitizer, hypnotizing his new boss so he thinks Tim is his gran so he likes him.

I have never found David Spade to be a charismatic presence on screen. The way he delivers his lines makes me think that he is a broken man inside who can’t believe that he is still making these incredibly awful films. He doesn’t even have Adam Sandler to help him out here as he is hopefully on to better things after starring in the masterpiece that is Uncut Gems. Lauren Lapkus certainly gives her all in a very physical performance but to what end? If I needed to give one more indicator as to how bad this film is, Vanilla Ice has a cameo in it. Sigh.

What we are served is a 90 minute hyperactive non-funny mess where people really should no better. Avoid.
